 PROGRAM NOTES:

Along with award winning pianist Brendan White, Stefanie Fife is pleased to perform a recital of her original works for cello and piano.

The first piece, in three movements entitled “What The Moon Seas,” was inspired by the ocean and its tides, as imagined in an ancient time. It depicts the water rushing towards the sand, only to retreat, then return again; each wave unique and relentless, while creatures of the pre Jurassic Era begin their first explorations of land. The second movement evokes images of rain, both gentle and severe while the third movement is an ode to the majestic thunderheads that form on the horizon then cede to the blue of the sky.

The second half of the concert is lighter in mood, and features movements from her work for cello and jazz trio. The instrumentation is reduced to feature a cello and piano duo.

These movements are heavily influenced by Bach, Chopin, French Impressionists, and jazz greats Bill Evans and Claus Ogerman.
