ARTIST BIOS:

Alexander (Xander) Knecht is a classical violinist and violist with a DMA from the University of Southern California, a Master's degree from the Juilliard School, and degrees in violin and mathematics from La Sierra University. While in school, his primary teachers were Brian Chen, Bing Wang, Masao Kawasaki, and Jason Uyeyama. He is a regular substitute violist in the Pacific Symphony and a tenured member of the Long Beach Symphony viola section. He has also performed with the Las Vegas Philharmonic and the Redlands Symphony as a violinist. He is active throughout the Los Angeles area as a private teacher and has served on the faculties of the Montecito International Music Festival and the Concordia University Summer Chamber Music Camp.

Active in giving back to the community, he currently works with the nonprofit M Music Group and for the Diocese of San Bernardino as a musician, and volunteers regularly with CKC-Music, a community engagement program in San Bernardino providing free music lessons to local children. Previously he has worked as a Teaching Artist for the Caesura Youth Orchestra at Columbus Elementary School in Glendale. In 2019 he founded a free violin class outreach program at the Los Angeles Chinese Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

In past summers he has been a fellow at the Aspen Music Festival, the Music Academy of the West, and the Gonggeng Music Festival in Zhejiang Province, China. He comes from a musical family of Chinese, Korean and Caucasian ancestry and has three siblings, all of whom play and teach string instruments.

 

Valeria Morgovskaya, pianist, graduated from the Kiev State Conservatory. Since her immigration to the US in 1990, Ms. Morgovskaya has been in high demand as an accompanist and has been an official accompanist to festivals and courses such as the Piatigorsky Cello Seminar and Beverley Hills Music Festival. She has performed throughout the US, Germany, Japan, Ukraine and Georgia, and has been heard on numerous live radio broadcasts. She has provided accompaniment for many national and international competitions, and was an official accompanist at the Schoenfeld International String Competition in Hong Kong (2013) and Harbin (2014). She was born in Kiev, Ukraine. Ms. Morgovskaya is currently staff accompanist at Loyola Marymount University and UCLA, and has been engaged in that capacity at USC, Cal State University Long Beach, the Colburn School, the Montecito International Music Festival, the Academy of the West and Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts.
