ARTIST BIOS:

Alexander Cai Knecht completed a DMA under full scholarship at USC in 2018, where he studied with Brian Chen. He holds a master's degree from Juilliard, where he studied with Masao Kawasaki, and bachelors' degrees  from La Sierra University, where he studied with Jason Uyeyama.

In 2018, he became a member of the viola section of the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra. Since 2019, he has served as a Teaching Artist for the Caesura Youth Orchestra at Columbus Elementary School in Glendale. In 2019, he founded a free violin class outreach program at the Los Angeles Chinese Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He is a regular participant as a violinist in the liturgical music at St. Joseph the Worker parish in Loma Linda. He has been a mentor teaching strings in the CKC-Music community engagement program in San Bernardino since its founding in 2008, continuing to the present day through Zoom.

This year he was featured in a live performance on AM 870 in Glendale, on the Impassioned Angels program.. Last summer he performed in an online celebration of the violin caprices of Sophie-Carmen Eckhardt-Grammaté, as part of a celebration of Canada Day hosted by Scott St. John of the Colburn School. He remains an active teacher and performer online.

In past summers he has been a fellow at the Aspen Music Festival, the Music Academy of the West, and the Gonggeng Music Festival in Zhejiang Province, China. He comes from a musical family of Chinese, Korean and Caucasian ancestry including three siblings, all of whom play and teach string instruments.

 

 

Pianist Brendan White has appeared as soloist with the Jackson Symphony Orchestra, Musica Nova (Eastman School of Music), Delta Symphony Orchestra, Crown City Symphony, Vicente Chamber Orchestra, and the Symphony of the Verdugos. White’s collaborations in Southern California have included the Mühlfeld Trio, which won the prestigious Beverly Hills Auditions, the Kaleidoscope Chamber Orchestra, the Speakeasy Society, and Eighteen Squared. He is also a founding member of the Sunset ChamberFest in Los Angeles; www.sunsetchamberfest.com 

Local recital appearances include: Glendale Noon Concerts, Pasadena Presbyterian Music at Noon, Music@Mimoda, Mason Concerts, Emerging Artist Series Recital at Boston Court, Soundwaves series in Santa Monica.

White was born and raised in Tennessee before attending Eastman to study with Thomas Schumacher, and then, the University of Southern California, with Kevin Fitz-Gerald, where he was awarded Outstanding Master’s Graduate of the Thornton School of Music. As a devoted performer of new music, he has worked with notable composers and conductors including Thomas Adès, Donald Crockett, Alan Pierson, Steven Stucky and Jeffrey Milarsky.

ARTIST BIOS:

Independent and passionate describe Yue Deng whose career as a concert violinist began when she was awarded First Prize in the National Violin Competition in China at the age of eight.

She studied at Oberlin Conservatory and Julliard. She has been a participant at the Music Academy of the West and the Henry Mancini Institute. As a recording artist, Yue has recorded with Barbra Streisand, Barry Manilow, Diana Krall, and Jean-Yves Thibaudet, among others. Yue has performed in the Carnegie, Avery Fisher, Alice Tully, and Disney Concert Halls, and at Birdland. She has mentored individual students at many prestigious institutions and coached underprivileged young violinists in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. From 2013-2019 she served as a Strings Instructor and Artist in Residence at University of Alberta while continuing to perform and record. Jazz great Roger Kellaway arranged and wrote an album for her titled Both Sides Now. He comments: “Her musicianship is superb. Because of Yue’s talent, I fell in love with the violin.”
